Process & Timeline

How long does a custom hotel art commission take? Most commissions run 8-16 weeks from approved concept to installed piece, depending on scale, medium, and quantity. Large-format lobby pieces and multi-piece guest-room programs run longer than single statement works. We scope a realistic timeline against your opening or renovation date at proposal stage.

When should we budget and start the art program relative to opening? Start the art conversation 12-18 months before opening for new builds and major renovations, alongside the FF&E schedule. Commissioning, production, framing, and installation all need to align with the broader construction timeline, and starting late is the most common cause of last-minute compromises on quality or budget.

Can you work within an existing FF&E schedule? Yes. We regularly work as a specified vendor inside a property's FF&E package, coordinating directly with the design team, purchasing agent, and general contractor on lead times, delivery windows, and installation sequencing.

Ownership & Rights

Do we own the copyright to the artwork? Our standard commissions include full copyright transfer upon final payment, meaning the property owns the work outright, not just a license to display it. This is unusual in the industry and is a deliberate part of how we structure engagements.

Can the same piece be reproduced for future properties? Only with a separate agreement. Standard commissions are one-of-one; if a brand wants to roll a design across multiple properties, we scope that as a distinct edition or licensing arrangement at the outset.

What happens to design files and production records after the project? We retain production records for warranty and maintenance reference, and can supply the client with final specification documentation (materials, dimensions, mounting hardware) for facilities records.

Specification & Materials

Can you match materials to fire and mounting code requirements? Yes. We work from the property's applicable code requirements (NFPA 701 flame-spread ratings, wall-mounting and seismic hardware standards) and can supply compliance documentation alongside the specification package.

Do you provide spec sheets for architects and general contractors? Yes, every commission includes a specification package: dimensions, weight, mounting method and hardware, material composition, and installation sequence, formatted for inclusion in construction documents.

Installation

Can you install in an occupied, operating hotel? Yes, and it's a large share of our work. We plan installation around guest flow, back-of-house access windows, and property operations, coordinating with hotel engineering to minimize disruption.

Who handles installation, you or a local contractor? It depends on scale and geography. Smaller and mid-size pieces are typically installed by our team; large-format or multi-location programs may be installed by a vetted local contractor working from our specification and under our supervision.

What if a piece is damaged during installation or after? Installation-related damage is covered under our process. Post-installation, we provide care and maintenance guidance specific to the piece's materials, and are available for repair or restoration consultation.

Commercial

Is there a minimum order size or budget? We work across a range of budgets, from single statement pieces to full guest-room programs. There's no fixed minimum, but the commissioning process (concept, proofing, production) makes very small budgets harder to serve well; we'll tell you directly if a project isn't a good fit.

Do you work directly with owners, or only through designers and architects? Both. We're commonly brought in by architects and interior designers as the art vendor of record, and we also work directly with ownership and procurement teams, particularly on renovation and refresh projects without a design firm attached.

Getting Started

What do you need from us to start a proposal? Property type and location, the space(s) being specified, any existing design direction or mood boards, budget range, and target timeline. The more of the FF&E and design context you can share upfront, the faster we can return a useful proposal.

Do you offer sample or pilot commissions before a full program? Yes. For larger multi-property or multi-room programs, we often recommend starting with a single pilot piece or room to confirm direction before committing to full production.
