A wallcovering mural turns an entire wall into a single artwork, printed as custom wallcovering and applied edge to edge. It is the most immersive way to bring art into a space: no frame, no edges, no gap between the art and the architecture. For a lobby, a feature wall, or a restaurant, it can do what no framed piece can, wrap a guest in an image at architectural scale, on a commercial timeline and budget that a hand-painted mural often can't match.

What a wallcovering mural is

A custom image, original or commissioned, printed onto commercial-grade wallcovering material and installed to fit a specific wall exactly. Unlike repeating pattern wallpaper, a mural is a single continuous composition scaled to the architecture. Unlike a hand-painted mural, it is produced off-site and installed quickly, with consistent, repeatable quality.

Where it belongs

Specification realities

Commercial-grade material. Specify Type II commercial wallcovering or equivalent, with the durability and fire rating hospitality requires, not residential wallpaper.

Wall prep and seams. Results depend on wall condition and skilled installation. Budget for prep; plan seam placement within the composition.

Custom, not catalog. The value is a bespoke image tied to the property. A generic repeating pattern is not the same product and reads as decor, not art.

Scale and resolution. Large murals need high-resolution source art; confirm the image holds up at full wall size before printing.

Common mistakes

Specifying residential-grade material that fails commercial durability and fire codes.

Skimping on wall prep, so seams and flaws telegraph through the finished mural.

Defaulting to a catalog repeat pattern when the impact comes from a custom, site-specific image.
