Art is one of the last elements installed on a hotel project, and one of the most frequently mistimed. It needs finished, protected walls, but it also has a production lead time measured in months, not days, which means the schedule for it has to be set early even though the work happens late.

How is art installation coordinated with the construction schedule?
Art installation is typically scheduled after wet trades and flooring are complete but before final punch list, so walls are finished and protected without blocking other trades. A qualified art vendor coordinates directly with the GC's schedule rather than working around it independently.
That coordination should happen well before installation week: confirming access windows, protection requirements for finished floors and walls, and any overlap with other trades still finishing punch list items nearby.
How much lead time does commissioned art need before opening?
Commissioned art typically needs 12 to 20 weeks from final approval to installation, covering production, framing, and shipping. For a full property program, plan for that lead time to start as soon as the art budget and specifications are locked, well before the punch list phase.
Art is frequently the last line item finalized in a design process, which is exactly why it becomes a schedule risk. Locking scope and budget early protects the installation date more than almost any other single decision on the art program.
Who handles art installation logistics on a hotel job site?
Installation is usually managed by the art vendor's own team or a specialized installation crew they bring in, coordinating directly with the GC's site supervisor for access, protection, and scheduling. Larger vendors handle permitting and life-safety coordination as part of the scope.
On larger programs, expect a dedicated install schedule broken out by floor or zone, sequenced to avoid conflict with other trades still finishing nearby work.
